Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 354 PM EST Sat Dec 13 2014 Valid 00Z Sun Dec 14 2014 - 00Z Tue Dec 16 2014 ***West Coast storm system to affect the Central U.S.*** ***Improving conditions for the Northeast U.S.*** ***More rain for the West Coast by Monday*** After producing record rainfall and snow for California over the past couple of days, the West Coast storm system will now be the main weather maker for the Plains and the Midwest. The sensible weather impacts are not going to be as impressive, however there will still be widespread rain showers along with some strong to severe storms over the central and southern Plains. Temperatures will also be above normal from the Gulf Coast to the Great Lakes region. Light to moderate snow is expected for the central and northern Rocky Mountains, and extending eastward into the Dakotas. After multiple days of unsettled weather and snow over the Northeast U.S., drier weather will be arriving for this region for Sunday and Monday. The stubborn upper level low that has lingered here is weakening and slowly moving away. There may still be a few snow showers over Maine and some patchy freezing drizzle over the northern Appalachians, but nothing significant is expected over the next two days. Washington, Oregon, and California will enjoy a brief break from the rainy weather before another system approaches the region early in the work week. This system is forecast to be considerably weaker than the last one. Dry weather will continue from the Mid-Atlantic region southward to Florida.
