Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 300 PM EST Sun Dec 14 2014 Valid 00Z Mon Dec 15 2014 - 00Z Wed Dec 17 2014 ***More rain arriving for the West Coast*** ***Stormy weather for the Plains and Midwest*** ***Dry weather for the East Coast states*** Another cold front is headed for the West Coast for the beginning of the work week. This will bring more rain and mountain snow to the drought-stricken region. This system is forecast to be considerably weaker than the last one, and therefore the sensible weather impacts are not going to be as impressive in terms of high winds and flooding rains. The strong storm system that hammered California late last week is now emerging over the central Plains. An influx of warm and humid air from the Gulf of Mexico will bring widespread showers and some strong thunderstorms from Texas to Missouri. Another front just north of this feature will introduce colder weather to the northern Plains and Upper Midwest, and this is where snow and a wintry mix is likely. Pleasant temperatures for this time of year will continue until the cold front moves through. After multiple days of unsettled weather and snow over the Northeast U.S., drier weather has returned to this region and this should continue through early Tuesday. The stubborn upper level low that has lingered here has weakened and moved away. Dry weather is also expected for the Mid-Atlantic and Southeast states through early Tuesday before the next frontal system arrives by mid-week.
