Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 247 PM EST Tue Dec 16 2014 Valid 00Z Wed Dec 17 2014 - 00Z Fri Dec 19 2014 ...More Rain and Snow for California and the West... ...Wintry Precipitation for the Central States and Maine... An active weather pattern is in store for the United States for the next few days, bringing rain and snow to many areas--along with some patchy freezing rain. Yet another storm is slated to slide into California, wringing out more low-elevation rains and mountain snows. As the complex weather system pushes through California and across the Four Corners states, the precipitation should decrease somewhat in intensity, though significant snows are still anticipated in the mountains of northern Arizona and southern Colorado. Farther east, mixed precipitation is expected on the leading edge of the same system over the central Plains, with soaking rains to the south. Meanwhile, another complex, cold storm tracking across the Great Lakes to the New England coastal waters is expected to bring widespread precipitation to the Great Lakes and Northeast, with freezing rain changing to accumulating snow over northern and western Maine Wednesday.
