Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 211 AM EST Sat Jan 17 2015 Valid 12Z Sat Jan 17 2015 - 12Z Mon Jan 19 2015 ***Rain and mountain snow for the Pacific Northwest*** ***Developing storm system by early Sunday for eastern U.S.*** A Pacific cold front that moved inland Thursday night is now crossing the central Plains, and this will be the main weather maker over the continental U.S. through this weekend. This storm system will likely bring some snow over the Dakotas and the northern Great Lakes during the day on Saturday. Rain and mountain snow will continue over the Pacific Northwest this weekend as onshore flow continues along with another frontal passage. This same trough over the central U.S. is forecast to reach the eastern U.S. by Sunday, and a trailing cold front will also accompany the main surface low over southern Ontario and Quebec. Widespread rainy weather is expected to materialize for much of the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast U.S. as Atlantic moisture gets drawn into this storm system. Most of the snow should be confined to interior parts of New England and upstate New York. Hamrick Graphics available at www.wpc.ncep.noaa.gov/basicwx/basicwx_wbg.php
