Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 352 AM EST Tue Jan 20 2015 Valid 12Z Tue Jan 20 2015 - 12Z Thu Jan 22 2015 ***Relatively quiet weather pattern through Wednesday*** ***Seasonal temperatures for most locations*** After the departure of the low pressure system that brought widespread rain and wintry weather to the Northeast U.S., the short-range forecast period will be quieter with no major weather events over the next two days. A large ridge of high pressure at the surface will keep conditions cold and dry for most of the western U.S., while a few weak disturbances will track across the central ans eastern U.S. through midweek. One of these disturbances will be a weak surface low tracking eastward across the Ohio Valley and Mid-Atlantic. It should have enough moisture for mainly light snow over this region, with a mix of rain and snow for the southern Appalachians and southern Virginia. By the end of the period, rain is expected to develop over Texas, and snow into the southern Rockies as a wave of low pressure develop along the stationary front near the Mexico border.
