Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 356 AM EST Mon Feb 09 2015 Valid 12Z Mon Feb 09 2015 - 12Z Wed Feb 11 2015 ...Snow will continue to develop over New England... ...Conditions should gradually begin to clear out West... ...A wintry mix of precipitation expected to spread over the north central U.S.... Snow will continue to develop to the north of a surface wave and strong frontal boundary sinking through the Mid-Atlantic region on Monday. Flow off the Atlantic should help enhance snowfall rates across portions of New England...which will contribute to some hefty multi-day totals from this event. Also...Arctic air rushing in behind the front could change rain over to freezing rain and sleet before precipitation comes to an end across New Jersey and the eastern half of Pennsylvania early Tuesday morning. Farther south...scattered showers and thunderstorms will be possible ahead of the sinking frontal boundary as it pushes towards the Southeast coast...and a surface low developing in the eastern Gulf of Mexico could bring heavier and more organized precipitation across Florida Monday evening. After a weekend of widespread soaking rains over northern California and the Pacific Northwest...conditions will begin to dry out across the Western U.S.. Light to moderate rain and mountain snows will continue to develop behind a cold front that pushed onshore Sunday afternoon...but precipitation should gradually taper off on Monday night into Tuesday as the front pushes farther east and ridging builds in aloft. A cold front emerging east of the Rockies will trigger a wintry mix of precipitation across the northern Plains Monday...which should spread eastward into the Upper Midwest Monday night into Tuesday.
