Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 352 AM EST Wed Feb 11 2015 Valid 12Z Wed Feb 11 2015 - 12Z Fri Feb 13 2015 ...Bitter and blustery conditions expected behind a cold front dropping out of the Midwest and sweeping towards the Appalachians... A strong cold front will drop out of the Midwest and sweep towards the Appalachians Wednesday and Thursday. Scattered snow showers will be possible with the anchoring surface low while it tracks from the Great Lakes to the Northeast. A limited moisture supply should keep accumulations light...but lake effect snow developing downwind of the Great Lakes could lead to locally higher amounts. Also...once the low redevelops and rapidly deepens off the Eastern Seaboard Thursday night...heavier snow could clip coastal New England before the low races towards the Canadian Maritimes early Friday. Arctic high pressure will slide in behind the cold front sweeping towards the Appalachians. Plunging temperatures and gusty winds will make for bitter and blustery conditions across the Upper Midwest on Wednesday...which should spread south and eastward on Thursday. Conditions will stay fairly quiet beneath an upper ridge building in over the Western U.S.. Energy amplifying on the eastern side of the ridge will trigger light to moderate rain and mountain snow over the southern Rockies and Plains Wednesday into Thursday. Also...a series of weakening Pacific systems could bring rain into the extreme northwestern corner of Washington State. Gerhardt Graphics available at www.wpc.ncep.noaa.gov/basicwx/basicwx_wbg.php
