Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 327 PM EST Sun Feb 22 2015 Valid 00Z Mon Feb 23 2015 - 00Z Wed Feb 25 2015 ...Heavy snow possible over parts of the Central Rockies/Great Basin... ...Heavy rain possible for parts of Southern California... ...Temperatures will be 25 to 40 degrees below average over parts of the Central/Southern Plains... ...Temperatures will be 20 to 35 degrees below average from parts of the Lower/Middle Mississippi Valley to Ohio Valley/Lower Great Lakes... A front extending from the Mid-Atlantic to the Gulf Coast then westward into the Southwest will move southeastward to the Southern tip of Florida as well as out over the Atlantic and the Gulf of Mexico by Tuesday. In addition, an area of cold high pressure over the Northern Plains will move southward to the Southern Plains and eastward to the Mid-Atlantic by Tuesday. Moisture form the Gulf of Mexico will move northward over the Gulf Coast States overrunning the cold air at the surface producing snow over parts of the Southern Plains through Monday morning. A band of rain/freezing rain and sleet will develop from parts of the Southern Plains to the Lower Mississippi Valley through Monday evening. Additionally, rain will develop over parts of the Southern Plains to the Southeast through Tuesday. Meanwhile, a developing upper-level low over Southern California will slowly move eastward to the Southwest by Tuesday. The system will produce snow from parts of the higher elevations of Central/Southern California eastward to the Central/Southern High Plains on Sunday evening slowly waning to area over the Southern Rockies by Tuesday. An area of rain will also develop over parts of Southern California eastward to parts of Southern High Plains through Monday morning. Likewise, the area of rain will wane to a small area over the Southwest on Tuesday morning. Elsewhere, a warm front over West-Central Canada will move southeastward to the Upper Great Lakes by Tuesday. The storm will produce light snow over parts of the Upper Mississippi Valley on Monday evening moving into the Upper Great Lakes by Tuesday morning.
