Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 459 PM EDT Thu Apr 16 2015 Valid 00Z Fri Apr 17 2015 - 00Z Sun Apr 19 2015 ...Heavy snow expected across the central Rockies... ...Heavy rainfall and flash flooding a concern across for the Gulf coast region... ...Severe weather possible for the southern/central Plains and western portions of the Gulf coast... A very strong cut-off low located over the Four Corners is slowly drifting eastward toward the Plains. Due to the slow-moving nature of this low, and enough moisture on tap, the significant snowstorm underway over the central Rockies will continue through Saturday morning. Although Thursday evening can expect snow across these mountains, the peak of the activity will occur on Friday. Lingering snow showers can still be expected on Saturday as the low puts the Four Corners behind it and heads toward the Plains by Saturday morning. When all is said and done, over 2 feet of snow is forecasted to fall across the central Rockies! For more information on snowfall amounts, check the WPC heavy snowfall products. Shifting gears toward the Gulf Coast, heavy rain and flash flooding will be a concern over the next few days. A stationary front that stretches across the Deep South through Saturday will provide focus for multiple rounds of showers and thunderstorms. These areas unfortunately have already receiving impressive amounts of rainfall the last several days. As these already-drenched areas receive yet even more rainfall, flash flooding will be the leading threat mostly along the western half of the Gulf Coast. The weekend for this region will continue to see this soaking trend. Ahead of a cold front moving across the southern and central plains associated with the aforementioned robust low, convection will continue to fire-off over the next few days during the afternoons.
