Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 411 AM EDT Wed Apr 22 2015 Valid 12Z Wed Apr 22 2015 - 12Z Fri Apr 24 2015 ***Large low pressure system over the Great Lakes*** ***Rain and snow for the Great Lakes and Appalachians*** ***Scattered rain and snow showers for the Rockies*** A large upper level low currently over the northern Great Lakes at the start of the period will be a key player in the weather expected for the eastern U.S. through Wednesday. At the surface, a reinforcing cold front is forecast to sweep through the eastern half of the U.S. by Wednesday, with this front stalling as it approaches the Gulf Coast. Showers and thunderstorms are likely ahead of the front before it exits the coast. In terms of sensible weather impacts, several days of cool weather is expected across much of the country east of the Rockies, with the exception of Florida, Texas, and near the central Gulf Coast where the humid weather is expected to continue. It will be cold enough across the Great Lakes and northern Appalachians to support some snow showers, especially at the higher elevations and during the overnight hours. For the western U.S., expect some isolated to scattered showers to develop over parts of the Rockies and the Sierra Nevada range each afternoon, with snow showers for the highest elevations.
