Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 409 AM EDT Thu Apr 23 2015 Valid 12Z Thu Apr 23 2015 - 12Z Sat Apr 25 2015 ***Stormy weather for the southern Plains and Deep South*** ***Showers and high-elevation snow for the western U.S.*** ***Below normal temperatures expected for the eastern U.S.*** An upper level low off the coast of southern California will be a player in the upcoming few days for severe weather across the Plains. This low will continue to develop on Thursday and into Friday as it moves toward the southern and central Plains. With moisture being advected northward from the Gulf of Mexico, along with daytime heating and instability, expect strong to severe thunderstorms to develop on Thursday and Friday. The greatest concentration of thunderstorm activity is expected over Texas and Oklahoma. Showers and mountain snow is expected for the Pacific Northwest and northern Rockies as a Pacific cold front approaches. Additional showers and some thunderstorms are likely across the Intermountain West, and also into parts of California. Over the northeast U.S., a large upper level low currently over southern Canada will slowly move eastward and out towards the Atlantic Ocean. This low will be responsible for bringing some snow showers across the upper Great Lakes and New England on Thursday. By Thursday evening, most of the snow showers will diminish across the Great Lakes and will move eastward across New England in response to the upper low moving offshore. By Friday morning, most of the snow will have tapered off, however some residual snow showers and rain showers could linger. Hamrick Graphics available at www.wpc.ncep.noaa.gov/basicwx/basicwx_wbg.php
