Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 346 PM EDT Mon Apr 27 2015 Valid 00Z Tue Apr 28 2015 - 00Z Thu Apr 30 2015 ...Stormy weather expected for the Gulf Coast region... ...Cool with showers over the Northeast U.S... ...Pacific cold front affects the Pacific Northwest... The area of the country with the greatest weather impacts over the next couple of days will be from the southern Plains to the Deep South and Florida. A slow moving low pressure system over the northern Gulf of Mexico will result in a strong moisture surge being lifted northward over a nearly stationary front near the Gulf Coast. Numerous showers and thunderstorms are expected from Louisiana to the Florida Peninsula, with rainfall amounts exceeding two inches in some areas by the middle of the week. Another area of rain is expected over parts of Oklahoma and Texas as an upper level low tracks eastward and results in rising air motion and widespread showers. The weather will continue to be rather cool and showery over New England and upstate New York as an upper-level closed low over the Canadian maritimes keeps plenty of clouds around along with persistent northerly winds. Over the Pacific Northwest, a cold front will approach the region on Tuesday with periods of rain and high elevation snow for Washington and Oregon.
