Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 350 AM EDT Mon May 11 2015 Valid 12Z Mon May 11 2015 - 12Z Wed May 13 2015 ***Heavy rain and severe storms from Texas to the Ohio Valley*** ***Tropical depression Ana continues to weaken*** ***Warm for the East Coast and cool for the central U.S.*** Severe thunderstorms and heavy rainfall are expected to develop from Texas to the middle Mississippi Valley region on Monday ahead of a cold front. Multiple thunderstorm complexes are likely over Texas through Tuesday as persistent Gulf of Mexico moisture is forced over a stalling frontal boundary, and several inches of rainfall is a good possibility over the eastern half of the state. Flash flooding will continue to remain an issue as much of the ground is already saturated. Now that tropical depression Ana has moved inland over North Carolina, it is continuing to weaken. However, it will still bring rain to eastern North Carolina and the Delmarva Peninsula before dissipating. The heaviest rainfall is likely for the Outer Banks. The amplified pattern in place will continue to favor below normal temperatures across the north-central part of the country. On Monday, forecast highs are expected to be 15-25 degrees below normal for the central and northern Plains, and also Upper Midwest. Widespread highs in the 40s and 50s are forecast for Monday. Farther south, wet weather across the state of Texas will also favor below normal readings as highs generally hold steady in the 70s on Tuesday, although it will continue to be humid there. Across the eastern U.S., warm weather will prevail for two more days ahead of the cold front, with widespread 80s and even a few low 90s for daytime highs.
