Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 311 AM EDT Tue May 26 2015 Valid 12Z Tue May 26 2015 - 12Z Thu May 28 2015 ...There is a slight risk of severe thunderstorms over parts of the Great Lakes/Ohio Valley and parts of the Southern Plains... ...Heavy rain possible over parts of the Southern Appalachians... A quasi-stationary front extending from the Great Lakes to the Southern Plains will slowly begin to dissipate over the Plains and Mississippi Valley by Wednesday evening. A plume of moisture from the Gulf of Mexico extending from the Central Gulf Coast to the Ohio Valley will move eastward to the East Coast late Tuesday into Wednesday. The moisture will aid in producing showers and thunderstorms from the Central Gulf Coast to the Upper Great Lakes that will slowly move to the East Coast by Wednesday. Additional showers and thunderstorms will develop over parts of the Southern Plains and along the dissipating front over parts of the Middle/Lower Mississippi Valley Tuesday evening into Wednesday evening. In addition, rain will develop over parts of the Upper Great Lakes on Tuesday night into Wednesday morning. Meanwhile, upper-level energy over the Rockies will aid in producing showers and thunderstorms over parts of the Northern/Central Rockies and parts of the Great Basin through Wednesday. On Wednesday some of the energy will move eastward to the Northern Plains. The energy will trigger showers and thunderstorms over parts of the Northern/Central Plains Wednesday afternoon into evening.
