Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 457 PM EDT Tue May 26 2015 Valid 00Z Wed May 27 2015 - 00Z Fri May 29 2015 ***Stormy weather for parts of the Deep South and southern Plains*** ***Scattered showers and thunderstorms over the western U.S.*** ***Warm and humid across much of the eastern U.S.*** After an extremely active period of heavy rainfall and flooding over the southern Plains for the past few days, it appears that the atmosphere is settling down some for that region. However, there will still be daily showers and storms that develop in response to daytime heating, and a few of these storms could become severe. Oklahoma will likely have the greatest rainfall potential out of the central U.S. states during the next couple of days. Periods of heavy rainfall are also likely from the Deep South to the central Appalachians. Over the western third of the U.S., mainly diurnally driven showers and thunderstorms can be expected each afternoon and evening from the Sierra Nevada mountains to the front range of the Rocky Mountains. Instability from a broad upper level trough over the region will promote the development of this convection, and the greatest coverage is expected from Utah to western Montana. The Bermuda high off the East Coast is allowing for building heat and humidity across much of the eastern U.S. this week. Sustained southerly flow and ridging aloft will result in widespread highs in the 80s to lower 90s along with dewpoints well into the 60s to around 70 degrees, which is more typical of late June. Scattered showers and storms will be possible each afternoon. However, the strength and severity will be significantly less than what is happening over the Plains given the strong ridge off the coast.
