Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 402 AM EDT Fri May 29 2015 Valid 12Z Fri May 29 2015 - 12Z Sun May 31 2015 A cold front will migrate across the Midwest today and tonight, and spread from the southern Plains to the upper Ohio Valley and northern New England by Saturday evening. Along the entire length of the front, scattered showers and thunderstorms will be common---with locally heavy rainfall possible across the lower Mississippi Valley for Saturday. Ahead of the front---widespread 80s and isolated temperature reading in the lower 90s are expected today across the East. Behind the front, temperatures will struggle to reach the upper 50s to mid 60s across the Midwest and low temperatures will drop into the mid 30s to lower 40s. Other areas of the country receiving precipitation during the next 48 hours include Florida ---where showers and thunderstorms will be on the increase as several weak easterly wave impulses move across the peninsula. And in the northern Rockies and Pacific Northwest---where an upper-level system ---currently in southwest Canada ---is expected to migrate into eastern Washington and northern Idaho during the next 36 to 48 hours. It will remain very warm in the Desert Southwest --- with triple-digit reading expected today and Saturday. And along I-5 from south central California into southern Oregon ---widespread 90-degree plus readings will likely be observed.
