Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 440 PM EDT Fri May 29 2015 Valid 00Z Sat May 30 2015 - 00Z Mon Jun 01 2015 ...Heavy rain and flash flooding possible with a cold front crossing the central U.S.... A strong cold front dropping out of the Northern Plains Friday evening will continue to press south and east this weekend...crossing much of the Upper Mississippi Valley and Southern Plains Friday night and moving into the Ohio and Lower Mississippi Valleys on Saturday. Widespread showers and thunderstorms are expected in a warm and unstable airmass in place ahead of the boundary...and a ripe supply of Gulf moisture...combined with weak impulses of energy aloft...could cause organized areas of heavy rains and flash flooding. The already soaked soils of north Texas will be especially prone to flash flooding. A cooler...drier...airmass will fill in behind the front. Elsewhere in the Nation....showers and thunderstorms will be on the increase across Florida as several weak easterly wave impulses move over the peninsula. A closed low over British Columbia will keep conditions favorable for scattered shower activity across the Northern Rockies Friday and Saturday. Farther south...temperatures will soar into triple digits over the Desert Southwest this weekend. Gerhardt Graphics available at www.wpc.ncep.noaa.gov/basicwx/basicwx_wbg.php
