Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 417 AM EDT Sun May 31 2015 Valid 12Z Sun May 31 2015 - 12Z Tue Jun 02 2015 ...Rain and thunderstorms across much of the eastern U.S.... ...Below normal temperatures for much of the Northeast and Midwest... ...Showers and thunderstorms becoming more common over the northern Rockies-High Plains.... A cold front that is currently dropping south across the Northeast and lower Great Lakes region is forecast to stall across the northern Mid-Atlantic states and southern New England as an area of lower pressure drifts slowly to the east out of the upper Ohio valley. This will establish a very wet period across the lower Great Lakes region, the northern Mid-Atlantic states and the Northeast -- with showers and thunderstorms developing and persisting through the remainder of the weekend into Monday. Further to the south, conditions will remain unsettled as well along and ahead of the southern portion of the front as it drifts slowly east from the Ohio, Tennessee and lower Mississippi valleys. North and west of the front, below average temperatures will prevail across the much of the Northeast to the central U.S., with daytime highs on Sunday and Monday staying as much as 15-20 degrees below normal across the Great Lakes region. Across the West, expect scattered showers and thunderstorms across the Rockies and the Northwest on Sunday. Showers and thunderstorms are forecast to become better organized on Monday, especially across the northern Rockies into the High Plains behind a strengthening area of low pressure.
