On Monday, showers and thunderstorms are expected to continue across much of the eastern U.S. as a frontal boundary extending from the southern New England coast back into the central Gulf Coast region stalls. The heaviest rains today are expected to fall ahead of an area of low pressure drifting east along the front, impacting portions of the northern Mid-Atlantic states and the Northeast. North and west of the front, below normal temperatures are expected to prevail, with high temperatures on Monday remaining 10 to 15 degrees below normal across much of the Ohio valley, lower Great Lakes region and the Northeast. Under the influence of high pressure centering over the upper Great Lakes and eastern Canada, dry conditions are expected to prevail from the upper Great Lakes southward into the southern Great Plains. Further west, widespread showers and thunderstorms are expected from the Pacific Northwest, northern Great Basin, Rockies into the northern Great Plains on Monday and Tuesday. Heavy rains will be possible along a strong cold front dropping south into Montana and the Dakotas and near a developing area of low pressure moving east across the Dakotas on Tuesday.
