Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 314 PM EDT Mon Jun 1 2015 Valid 00Z Tue Jun 2 2015 - 00Z Thu Jun 4 2015 ***Heavy rain and storms for the East Coast*** ***Cool and dry from the Upper Midwest to the Ohio Valley*** ***Showers and storms from the Pacific Northwest to Montana*** A frontal boundary that is nearly stationary over the eastern U.S., along with multiple waves of low pressure along it, will be the focus for numerous showers and thunderstorms that are expected to develop from Monday evening and extending into midweek. Flash flood watches are currently in effect near the Interstate 95 corridor from Virginia to southern New England, where some areas could receive a few inches of rain in a relatively short time. Some areas have already seen heavy rainfall over the past day and this will also contribute to flooding problems. Some severe thunderstorms can be expected south of the front from Maryland to the Southeast Coast. Farther to the northwest across the Upper Midwest, Great Lakes, and Ohio Valley, a pristine and fall-like airmass will govern the weather pattern for a couple more days. Widespread lows in the 40s and 50s, and highs in the 60s and 70s along with low humidity, will make for very pleasant conditions for outdoor activities. A few areas in northern Michigan may even have frost on Tuesday morning! For the western U.S., widespread showers and thunderstorms are expected from the Pacific Northwest, northern Great Basin, northern Rockies, and eventually over the northern Great Plains through Tuesday. Widespread rain is likely along a strong cold front dropping south into Montana and the Dakotas, and near a developing area of low pressure moving east across the Dakotas on Tuesday.
