Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 423 AM EDT Wed Jun 03 2015 Valid 12Z Wed Jun 03 2015 - 12Z Fri Jun 05 2015 ...Storms to continue across the northern and central Plains... ...Showers and thunderstorms expected throughout the Mid-Atlantic and Southeast... ...Unsettled weather anticipated for the Pacific Northwest and northern Rockies... Currently, an organized band of thunderstorms is progressing eastward across the central Plains towards the middle Mississippi Valley. This trend will continue over the next few days as disturbances move ahead of the upper level trough sliding across the West Coast with convection being triggered and progresses eastward across the Plains and Mississippi Valley. For Wednesday, the Storm Prediction Center has an enhanced risk of severe storms for parts of the central Plains accounting for another round of convection. However, in general, showers and thunderstorms can be expected from the central and northern Plains eastward into the Upper Great Lakes through Thursday morning. As the cold front pushes southeastward by Thursday afternoon toward the Mississippi Valley and southern Plains, the axis of convection will follow suit and stays ahead of the front. Another upper level low has been slowly moving eastward over the Southeast. At the surface, a stationary front has been draped across the Southeast and Deep South. With plenty of moisture on tap, and the stationary front providing a focal point, showers and thunderstorms will continue throughout the Mid-Atlantic and Southeast. The heaviest rainfall activity will be confined to the coast of the Carolinas and Georgia. This stationary front stays put through Thursday evening. Thus, expect showers and thunderstorms to linger through that time frame. Farther south, Florida will receive its usual diurnally-driven thunderstorm activity throughout the short term period. As the upper level low on the West Coast deepens and digs southward across the West Coast, showers and thunderstorms will increase in coverage. Showers will be focused in the Pacific Northwest through Wednesday evening. By Thursday, the focus shifts eastward across the northern Rockies and Intermountain West.
