Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 325 AM EDT Sat Jun 6 2015 Valid 12Z Sat Jun 6 2015 - 12Z Mon Jun 8 2015 ***Severe weather possible over parts of the Plains*** ***Nice weather this weekend for the East Coast*** ***Scattered showers and thunderstorms over the western U.S.*** Over the nation's mid-section, a developing surface low over the northern Plains is forecast to track eastward towards the upper Great Lakes by Sunday morning. Mid and upper level forcing, combined with abundant low level moisture, could lead to severe weather across portions of the central and northern plains this weekend, along with areas of heavy rain. Improving weather is expected for the East Coast this weekend, after several days of cloudy and rainy conditions. On Saturday, a cold front dropping southward across much of the eastern U.S. will allow a quality airmass from Canada to build in from the Great Lakes to the Mid-Atlantic with pleasant temperatures and lower humidity. Hotter weather is expected to return by Monday. For the western third of the country, scattered showers and thunderstorms are likely to develop in response to upslope flow and diurnal heating through this weekend as an upper level trough remains over the region. An upper level low over the Desert Southwest will aid in producing showers and thunderstorms over parts of the region and extending into Nevada, providing short-term drought relief to some areas. High pressure building over the eastern Pacific Ocean will lead to a period of hot and dry weather for interior parts of the Pacific Northwest, with near record temperatures possible for Sunday and Monday.
