A cold front currently draping across the eastern U.S. is forecast to gradually dissipate during the next couple of days. Showers and thunderstorms ahead of the front in the Southeast are expected to linger. Meanwhile, another cold front across the northern part of the country will slide eastward. Heat and humidity will begin to build ahead of the front, and will spread eastward into the eastern U.S. through the latter half of the week. Meanwhile, showers and thunderstorms will develop in the central Plains eastward across the Midwest into the Northeast. Cooler air will then filter in behind the front and spread eastward across the northern part of the U.S. along the front over the Northeast through late Thursday night. By Thursday and Friday, a wave of low pressure forming along the front will increase the chance of heavier showers and thunderstorms in the upper Midwest. Out west, remnant moisture from what was tropical depression Blanca will continue to interact with an upper-level trough. Showers and thunderstorms are expected to spread generally eastward from the Great Basin and much of the central Rockies through Thursday before merging with the developing surface low in the Plains. Temperatures are expected to stay below normal due to clouds and rain. However, very warm daytime temperatures are expected to continue across the interior section of the northwestern U.S. Kong Graphics available at www.wpc.ncep.noaa.gov/basicwx/basicwx_wbg.php
