Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 338 AM EDT Thu Jun 11 2015 Valid 12Z Thu Jun 11 2015 - 12Z Sat Jun 13 2015 ***Heavy rain and thunderstorms for the Upper Midwest*** ***Stormy weather develops over parts of southern Plains*** ***Hot and humid across the southern U.S.*** A heavy rainfall event is expected to materialize over the Upper Midwest from eastern Nebraska to Wisconsin through Thursday night. A potent disturbance aloft and a developing surface low will have a plethora of deep moisture available, and the convergence along the associated frontal boundary and mid-level ascent will allow for multiple thunderstorm complexes to form and bring a few inches of rain. Flood watches are already in effect for these areas. Farther to the west, another area of low pressure coupled with a shortwave disturbance aloft will generate noteworthy rainfall from Colorado to western Texas and Oklahoma late Thursday night through Friday. Deep moisture flowing westward towards the central Rockies in Colorado will allow for areas of moderate to heavy rain to develop, with isolated areas of flooding possible. Multiple rounds of thunderstorms are expected for the western parts of the southern Plains. Elsewhere across the U.S., hot and humid weather will be present from the Plains to the Mid-Atlantic to close out the week. Widespread highs in the 90s, along with elevated levels of humidity, will make it feel like 95 to 100 degrees. Poor air quality is also expected for the urban corridor of the Northeast U.S. on Thursday. Hamrick Graphics available at www.wpc.ncep.noaa.gov/basicwx/basicwx_wbg.php
