Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 437 AM EDT Mon Jun 15 2015 Valid 12Z Mon Jun 15 2015 - 12Z Wed Jun 17 2015 ...Very heavy rainfall and flash flooding possible across parts of eastern Texas in association with potential tropical system... ...Heavy rain and flash flooding possible from the southern Plains to the Ohio Valley... ...Severe weather is possible from the Ohio Valley to the Northeast as well as parts of the northern Plains and High Plains on Monday... All eyes continue to be on a developing area of low pressure in the western Gulf of Mexico. Very heavy rainfall, flash flooding, thunderstorms, and high winds could accompany this system beginning Monday and lasting into Wednesday. Please refer to the National Hurricane Center for more information regarding this potential tropical system. Strong high pressure will remain anchored over the Southeast U.S. this period allowing for the transport of very moist and unstable tropical air around the high leading to widespread showers and thunderstorms from the southern Plains to the Northeast. A cold front in the Plains this morning moving into this airmass should provide a focus for heavier and more organized activity Monday and Tuesday. Heavy rainfall and flash flooding is possible, especially along and ahead of the boundary from the southern Plains to the Ohio Valley. Severe weather is also possible along the boundary from the Ohio Valley to the Northeast. Additionally, a weak area of low pressure developing ahead of this system, moving through the Northeast on Monday, could bring some heavy rainfall to portions of New England. Elsewhere, a portion of the above mentioned boundary stretched across the western U.S. is expected to bring scattered showers and thunderstorms from the Rockies to the northern Plains Monday and Tuesday. Weak energy moving through the flow aloft may lead to a wave of low pressure developing along the boundary which could bring heavy to excessive rainfall and severe weather for portions of the northern High Plains and Plains states.
