Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 358 AM EDT Tue Jun 16 2015 Valid 12Z Tue Jun 16 2015 - 12Z Thu Jun 18 2015 ...Tropical Storm Bill is expected to bring very heavy rain and flash flooding to portions of eastern Texas... ...Showers and thunderstorms will continue to bring the threat for heavy rainfall and flash flooding to places from the southern Plains to the Ohio Valley ... ...Severe thunderstorms possible for portions of the Ohio Valley as well as the northern High Plains... The big story this period will be Tropical Storm Bill which is forecast by the National Hurricane Center to make landfall along the central Texas coastline late Tuesday morning. Very heavy rainfall and flash flooding will be a concern both Tuesday and Wednesday across east Texas as the center of circulation makes landfall and moves north. The possibility of severe weather cannot be ruled out either. For the latest information on Bill, please refer to the products issued by the NHC. As has been the story for the past several days, very moist and unstable air being transported around an area of high pressure anchored over the Southeast will continue to support widespread showers and thunderstorms from the southern Plains to the Mid-Atlantic and portions of the Northeast both Tuesday and into Wednesday. Given the rain which has already fallen in these same areas, flash flooding will be a concern, especially more so as moisture from Tropical Storm Bill gets pulled northward through the middle Mississippi Valley and into the Ohio Valley. A warm front lifting northward across the Ohio Valley on Wednesday will also provide a focus for severe weather as forecast by the Storm Prediction Center. Elsewhere, a stationary boundary is expected to linger across northern portions of the Intermountain West as a wave of low pressure develops along the front in eastern Wyoming this morning and moves northeastward across the Northern Plains and into the northern Mississippi Valley by Wednesday. Showers and thunderstorms are possible from the northern/central Rockies to the Upper Great Lakes in association with this system. A few of the storms, especially around the low and boundary itself in the northern High Plains and Plains could bring the potential for heavy rainfall and severe weather.
