Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 336 PM EDT Fri Jun 26 2015 Valid 00Z Sat Jun 27 2015 - 00Z Mon Jun 29 2015 ...Severe thunderstorms and flash flooding possible for portions of the Ohio Valley to the Mid-Atlantic/Southeast... ...Well above average temperatures expected for much of the western U.S... An area of low pressure, developing along a surface frontal boundary draped from the Mid-Atlantic to the southern Plains this afternoon, will deepen as it tracks northeastward across the Ohio Valley and the Mid-Atlantic this weekend. Wet weather is forecast across a large portion of the U.S. from the southern Plains/Rockies to New England in association with this system. The heaviest and most organized of the precipitation is expected to be along and north of the front/low across the Ohio Valley and Mid-Atlantic tonight and tomorrow, and moving into the Northeast and New England by tomorrow afternoon. Some of these storms could be capable of heavy rainfall, flash flooding, and severe weather... especially across the Ohio Valley, the Mid-Atlantic, and portions of the Southeast. Please refer to the convective products issued by the Storm Prediction Center for more information about the severe weather threat. Elsewhere, a strong ridge of high pressure in the mid to upper levels will remain anchored over the Western U.S. over the next several days. Quite contrary to the eastern U.S., this will mean very warm and above average temperatures with very little to no precipitation. Afternoon highs are forecast to soar well into the 90s with some places seeing triple digits. This is as much as 15 to 25 degrees above normal for this time of the year!
