Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 333 PM EDT Mon Jul 06 2015 Valid 00Z Tue Jul 07 2015 - 00Z Thu Jul 09 2015 ...Widespread heavy rains likely from the southern Rockies and southern Great Plains to the mid Mississippi valley... ...Above normal temperatures continue across the Pacific Northwest... ...Temperatures dropping below normal across much of the central U.S.... Flash flood watches are currently in effect for a large portion of New Mexico, the Texas Panhandle and extending northeastward across Oklahoma, southeastern Kansas into Missouri. A strong, moisture-laden frontal boundary is expected to provide the focus for widespread showers and thunderstorms as it drops south and then slows across the region. These storms will be capable of producing heavy rainfall totals, which may cause flooding concerns. Further to the north, the front is expected to progress more steadily -- moving across the Great Lakes to the Northeast with showers and thunderstorms falling across the region. Well ahead of the front, showers and thunderstorms are expected to continue lifting to the north across portions of the Mid-Atlantic, central Appalachians into the Northeast overnight. While temperatures are expected to remain above normal across the Pacific Northwest, below average temperates are expected across much of the central U.S. Behind the front, expect high temperature on Tuesday of 15-20 degrees below normal across parts of Oklahoma and the Texas Panhandle.
