Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 429 AM EDT Fri Jul 10 2015 Valid 12Z Fri Jul 10 2015 - 12Z Sun Jul 12 2015 ...Severe thunderstorms possible for portions of the Central Plains and the Ohio River Valley... ...Flash flooding possible for portions of the Northern Rockies, Central Plains and the Ohio River Valley... The large scale weather pattern over the continental U.S. will be in transition over the next couple of days. The upper ridge that has kept most of the West warmer and drier of late has begun to weaken with the upper-level trough in place over the Pacific Ocean and the West Coast. Temperatures will remain 5 to 10 degrees above average on Friday, but will fall to near or just a few degrees above seasonal normal by Saturday. Disturbances associated with the trough, combined with monsoonal moisture, will bring increased shower and thunderstorm activity to portions of the Inter-mountain West, Great Basin and the Central and Southern Rockies. Portions of the Northern Rockies may have periods of heavy rain that result in flash floods. A warm front will drift slowly northward across the central U.S. into the weekend. This boundary will serve as a focus for development of several rounds of showers and thunderstorms. The Storm Prediction Center had identified the eastern Kansas, southeast Nebraska, Kentucky and areas just north of the Ohio River in southern Illinois and Indiana as having a slight risk for severe thunderstorms to develop. Storms that track through the Ohio River Valley region have the potential to produce heavy rain and may cause flash flooding through early Saturday morning.
