Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 258 AM EDT Tue Jul 14 2015 Valid 12Z Tue Jul 14 2015 - 12Z Thu Jul 16 2015 ...Tropical storm Claudette moves away from the American mainland... ...There is a risk for severe thunderstorms and flash flooding for parts of the Ohio and Tennessee Valleys especially on Tuesday... ...After some locally heavy showers and thunderstorms for the Ohio Valley and East Coast...slightly cooler and drier air is expected my midweek across the Midwest and Northeast... Tropical Storm Claudette is moving east northeastward away from the US East Coast and will likely have little if any impact on the Northeast US. See the latest advisories for detailed information from the National Hurricane Center. The persistence of a series of weak upper level disturbances along a nearly stationary surface front with high instability and lots of moisture could give rise to the risk of severe thunderstorms and even some flash flooding across the Ohio into the Tennessee Valleys on Tuesday. The threat of severe weather diminishes only slightly as this broad complex area of showers/thunderstorms makes it way south and eastward across the Tennessee Valley, Upper Southeast, Appalachians and Middle Atlantic states. After this period of relatively hot, humid and unsettled weather continues into Tuesday night and early Wednesday, some cooler and drier air now poised north of the US Canadian border will sift southward across the Midwest and then across the East on Wednesday although some residual showers may continue to affect southern New England through Wednesday night. A warm front is expected to develop slowly across the Southern Plains on late Tuesday into Wednesday and will be accompanied by the development of showers and thunderstorms over the Central Plains on Wednesday that could expand northward across the Northern Plains later on Wednesday. Monsoonal moisture will continue to feed the mostly afternoon and evening outbreak of scattered thunderstorms across the Southwest into the Central and Northern Rockies.
