Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 458 PM EDT Thu Jul 16 2015 Valid 00Z Fri Jul 17 2015 - 00Z Sun Jul 19 2015 ***Active weather pattern across the northern U.S.*** ***Hot and humid across the southern Plains and Deep South*** ***Scattered showers and storms for the Rocky Mountains*** A series of upper level disturbances associated with a broad area of low pressure over southern Canada will promote the development of several thunderstorm complexes across the northern Plains and Midwest states. Some of these storms could become severe and also produce heavy rain. As an upper trough deepens across the northwestern quarter of the nation, a slight risk of severe weather will shift westward to the central and northern Plains with the highest risk in eastern Nebraska, South Dakota and southwestern Minnesota on Friday. Hot and humid conditions associated with a persistent upper level ridge will continue from Texas to the Deep South for the rest of the week and into the weekend. High temperatures will mostly be in the 90s to near 100 degrees along with high humidity. On the western edge of the hot southern upper ridge, a monsoonal flow of moisture will feed northward from western Mexico across the Southwest into portions of the Rocky Mountains, where the best chances for thunderstorms during the afternoon and evening.
