Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 348 PM EDT Fri Jul 17 2015 Valid 00Z Sat Jul 18 2015 - 00Z Mon Jul 20 2015 ...There is a slight risk of severe thunderstorms from the Northern/Central Plains to upper Midwest... ...Heavy rainfall potential for the Southwest... A weak low pressure system will slide into eastern Canada and bring showers and thunderstorms to the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic tonight and tomorrow. Showers will be more focused ahead of the warm front as it pushes through the Northeast. Further south, activity should be more scattered in the absence of a frontal boundary or other forcing mechanism aloft. A second low will push across southern Canada with a cold front sweeping across the northern Plains tonight. With approaching mid level energy and a strengthening upper level jet, thunderstorms developing across the region should be rather well organized and could become severe. The severe threat will shift to the upper Midwest tomorrow as the cold front approaches the region. By Saturday, moisture from Tropical Storm Dolores will stream into the desert southwest. Daytime heating should spark scattered showers and thunderstorms across Arizona, western New Mexico, and southern California. These storms interacting with much above normal moisture could produce locally heavy rainfall and potentially cause flash flooding.
