Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 459 PM EDT Sun Jul 19 2015 Valid 00Z Mon Jul 20 2015 - 00Z Wed Jul 22 2015 ***Hot and humid for the Deep South and East Coast*** ***Showers and storms from the Rockies to the Ohio Valley*** ***Welcomed rainfall for parts of California*** Some of the hottest weather of this summer season is now underway across much of the southern U.S. and extending into the Mid-Atlantic region. Numerous heat advisories are in effect through Monday as heat indices are forecast to reach the 100 to 110 degree range, with highs well into the 90s and dewpoints remaining in the 70s. This is courtesy of an upper level ridge and moist southerly flow. A cold front is expected to reach the East Coast by Tuesday night and this will bring a return to more pleasant conditions by midweek from Tennessee to Virginia. It will remain hot and humid across the Deep South. Showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop each afternoon from the Rockies to the central Plains, and continuing eastward across the Ohio Valley along the cold front. Isolated to scattered activity is likely across the Gulf Coast region and over towards the East coast. Some of these storms could become strong to severe at times. For the West Coast, the remnants of tropical storm Dolores is bringing some welcomed rainfall to central and southern California. Daily rainfall records are likely through Monday since this is happening during the driest time of year for the state. Some areas may receive half an inch to locally an inch or more of rainfall by Tuesday. Flash flood watches are in effect for much of this region. D.
