Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 434 PM EDT Fri Jul 24 2015 Valid 00Z Sat Jul 25 2015 - 00Z Mon Jul 27 2015 ...Severe weather possible across Upper Midwest and central Plains... ...Heavy rain possible over portions of the Central Plains, Northern Plains and Florida... There are two main frontal systems that will be generating most of the precipitation this weekend. The cold front that pushed through the Mid-Atlantic and stalled over the Carolinas and Gulf states earlier this week will be continue to be quasi-stationary through Sunday evening. Showers and thunderstorms will develop along this boundary, with better coverage expected over Florida and the Georgia/South Carolina coastline. Localized heavy rain will be possible in these areas through Sunday; which may result in flash flooding. A cold front pushing across the Central Plains and Upper Midwest will be the focus for showers and thunderstorms through Sunday evening. A warm and humid airmass in place ahead of the front will support the development of strong to severe thunderstorms this afternoon. The Storm Prediction Center indicates that portions of the Central Plains, Mid- and Upper Mississippi River Valleys have a slight risk for severe thunderstorms for Saturday and Sunday. Some of these storms may produce excessive rainfall for eastern Nebraska and Kansas, northern Missouri and south-central Iowa. Flash flooding will be possible.
