Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 335 AM EDT Fri Jul 31 2015 Valid 12Z Fri Jul 31 2015 - 12Z Sun Aug 02 2015 ***Drier airmass for New England and Mid-Atlantic*** ***Stormy weather for the Gulf Coast and Florida*** ***Scattered showers and storms for the southern Rockies*** After several days of hot and oppressively humid conditions for much of the northeastern quadrant of the nation, a front arriving from the northwest will bring a noticeable drop in humidity for Friday and extending into the weekend from the Ohio Valley to the East Coast. The temperature change will only be minor with highs well into the 80s to near 90 degrees, along with slightly cooler overnight lows. It should remain rather humid for the southeast U.S. since the front eventually stalls out over that region. Numerous showers and thunderstorms are expected through Saturday across the central Gulf Coast and for the Florida peninsula as a trough of low pressure and moisture convergence remain over that region. Parts of southern Georgia and north central Florida could see a couple inches of rainfall by Saturday evening with multiple rounds of thunderstorm activity. For the western U.S., scattered showers and thunderstorms are forecast to develop each afternoon over the Four Corners region in response to daytime heating with monsoonal moisture in place. Some of this moisture will likely extend eastward over parts of northern Texas and western Oklahoma, where 1 to 2 inches of rainfall is a good possibility. Heat will also be making weather headlines for parts of northern California, Oregon, and Washington, with daytime highs running well above average to close out the week. D.
