Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 354 PM EDT Fri Jul 31 2015 Valid 00Z Sat Aug 01 2015 - 00Z Mon Aug 03 2015 ...Locally heavy rains for portions of the Southeast... ...Scattered heavy rains for portions of the southwestern U.S.... A stalled frontal boundary extending from the eastern Carolinas back into the northern Gulf of Mexico is forecast to provide the focus for showers and thunderstorms today into the weekend. These storms may produce locally heavy rains, especially along the eastern Gulf coast into northern Florida, as tropical moisture pooling along the front interacts with weak upper level disturbances. Further to the north, with the exception of scattered showers accompanying a secondary shot of cooler air pushing across the Great Lakes and Northeast on Saturday, expect drier conditions to prevail across much of the remainder of the eastern U.S. through the weekend. Across the northern Great Plains to the upper Midwest, showers and thunderstorms are forecast to develop and move across portions of the region late Saturday into Sunday. Scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop both days across interior California, the Desert Southwest, the southern Great Basin into the southern Rockies. Some of these storms may produce locally heavy amounts, resulting in excessive runoffs and flash flooding. Some storms developing along the mountains of northern New Mexico and southern Colorado may spill east into the plains, producing locally heavy rains across portions of the Oklahoma and Texas panhandle regions as well. Dry conditions and above normal temperatures are expected to continue from the Pacific Northwest across the northern Rockies into the High Plains.
