Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 328 AM EDT Sat Aug 1 2015 Valid 12Z Sat Aug 1 2015 - 12Z Mon Aug 3 2015 ***Stormy weather for the Gulf Coast and Florida*** ***Warm and dry for New England and Mid-Atlantic*** ***Scattered showers and storms for the southern Rockies*** Numerous showers and thunderstorms are expected this weekend across the central Gulf Coast and for the Florida peninsula as a weak stationary front and moisture convergence remain over that region. Parts of southern Georgia and north central Florida could see a couple inches of rainfall by Saturday evening with multiple rounds of thunderstorm activity. Farther to the north, with the exception of scattered showers accompanying a secondary shot of cooler air pushing across the Great Lakes on Saturday, warm and dry conditions are expected to prevail from the Deep South to the Northeast coast. For the western U.S., scattered showers and thunderstorms are forecast to develop each afternoon over the Four Corners region in response to daytime heating with monsoonal moisture in place. Some of these storms may produce locally heavy rainfall amounts, resulting in excessive runoff and possible flash flooding issues. Some of this moisture is expected to extend eastward over parts of northern Texas and western Oklahoma, where 1 to 2 inches of rainfall is a good possibility. Heat and dry weather will also be making weather headlines for parts of northern California, Oregon, and Washington, with heat advisories in effect for some areas as highs reach well into the 90s along with an elevated risk of wildfires.
