Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 401 AM EDT Sun Aug 2 2015 Valid 12Z Sun Aug 2 2015 - 12Z Tue Aug 4 2015 ***Stormy weather for the Gulf Coast and Florida*** ***Warm and dry for New England and Mid-Atlantic*** ***Scattered showers and storms for the southern Rockies*** Numerous showers and thunderstorms are expected on Sunday across Florida as a weak stationary front and moisture convergence remain over that region. Several inches of rainfall is possible over northern Florida with multiple rounds of thunderstorm activity. Stormy conditions are also in the forecast for the coastal areas of North Carolina and extending southward to eastern Georgia. Farther to the north, warm and dry conditions are expected to prevail from the Deep South to the Northeast coast through Sunday night. For the western U.S., scattered showers and thunderstorms are forecast to develop each afternoon over the Four Corners region in response to daytime heating with monsoonal moisture in place. Some of this moisture is expected to extend eastward over parts of the western High Plains, with scattered areas of heavy rainfall likely. Heat and dry weather will also be making weather headlines for parts of northern California, Oregon, and Washington, but relief is expected to arrive by early in the week as a cold front settles southward. Across the central U.S., showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop ahead of an area of low pressure moving from the northern Great Plains to the Great Lakes Sunday into early Monday. Some of these storms may be strong to severe at times and produce periods of heavy rain. By Monday, a relatively strong cold front dropping south behind the surface low is expected to result in temperatures that are slightly below average for early August across the Upper Midwest and across the Great Lakes region.
