Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 416 AM EDT Mon Aug 3 2015 Valid 12Z Mon Aug 3 2015 - 12Z Wed Aug 5 2015 ***Showers and thunderstorms from the Ohio Valley to New England*** ***Stormy weather for Florida and the southeast Coast*** ***Heat wave ending for the Pacific Northwest*** A cold front progressing eastward from the Great Lakes is expected to have a broken band of showers and storms from the Ohio Valley to the East Coast. Some of these storms may be strong to severe and produce locally heavy rainfall. Cooler air filling in behind the front will result in high temperatures slightly below seasonal averages across the Upper Midwest and the Great Lakes region. Additional rounds of showers and thunderstorms, with locally heavy rainfall, can be expected from coastal South Carolina and Georgia back to the southeast across northern Florida and along the eastern Gulf Coast. The greatest potential for heavy rain is expected to remain centered across the northern and central Florida peninsula, where tropical moisture pooling along a surface trough is expected to be greatest. Some storms are expected to develop across portions of the Pacific Northwest and the northern Rockies. By late Monday into Tuesday, a cold front dropping from the northwest will begin to impact the region, bringing an end to the stretch of well-above normal temperatures.
