The result will be a band of moderate to heavy rainfall extending from the Ohio Valley to the Virginia coast. A few areas could receive in excess of two inches of rain by Saturday morning, with improving weather in time for the weekend. Upper level ridging over the southern Rockies and southern Plains is forecast to expand over the next couple of days and result in mostly sunny skies and hot conditions. Widespread upper 90s and 100+ degree temperatures are likely from Texas to the Deep South. Heat advisories have already been issued for many areas from north Texas to Mississippi for heat indices exceeding 105 degrees during the afternoon hours. A slow moving upper level disturbance crossing California and eventually over the Intermountain West will result in an increase in moisture from Arizona to the central Rockies for the end of the week. Isolated areas of heavy rainfall will be possible, especially near mountain ranges. Most of these showers and storms are likely during the afternoon and evening hours.
