Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 229 PM EDT Thu Aug 06 2015 Valid 00Z Fri Aug 07 2015 - 00Z Sun Aug 09 2015 ***Numerous showers and storms across the mid Atlantic and southeast U.S.*** ***Hot and humid across the southern Plains and Deep South*** ***Scattered showers and storms over the Rockies and Great Basin*** The weather pattern over the eastern U.S. for the end of the week will feature a developing surface low over the Mid-Atlantic region. The result will be area of moderate to heavy rainfall extending from the central Appalachians across Virginia. A few areas could receive in excess of two inches of rain by Saturday morning, with improving weather in time for the weekend. Scattered to numerous showers and storms occur in advance of the trailing cold front across the southeast. Another area of numerous showers and embedded thunderstorms is over the northern Plains to upper Mississippi Valley. Locally heavy rains are possible where storms are slow moving. This system moves into the upper lakes and weakens this weekend. Upper level ridging over the southern Plains is forecast to persist over the next couple of days and result in mostly sunny skies and hot conditions. Widespread upper 90s and 100+ degree temperatures are likely across Texas. Heat advisories have been issued for many areas of eastern Oklahoma and Texas across Arkansas and northern Louisiana. A slow moving upper level disturbance crossing California and over the Intermountain West will result in an increase in moisture from Arizona to the central Rockies. Scattered to locally numerous showers and storms are likely during the afternoon and evening hours. A complex of showers and thunderstorms is forecast to develop over the central high Plains late Friday and move across the central Plains Friday night to Saturday morning, possibly continuing into the mid Mississippi Valley Saturday.
