Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 432 AM EDT Tue Aug 11 2015 Valid 12Z Tue Aug 11 2015 - 12Z Thu Aug 13 2015 ...Heavy rain expected for portions of the Southwest and Four Corners Region... Much of the East Coast will be wet through Thursday morning as a frontal system slowly moves into the New England, Mid-Atlantic and southern states. Areas along the Gulf Coast and the East Coast up to North Carolina could see rainfall amounts up to 1.5 inches by Thursday morning. Further north, a vast portion of New England could receive 1 to 2 inches. This system will bring much needed moisture; as many locations along the East Coast have been experiencing drought-like conditions of late. Meanwhile, monsoonal moisture and daytime heating will produce showers and thunderstorms over parts of the Southwest/Great Basin and parts of the Southern/Central Rockies during the late afternoon and evening on Monday and Tuesday. Specifically, areas in the vicinity of the Wasatch Mountains will have the best potential for higher rain amounts and possible flash flooding concerns. Amounts of 0.50 to 1.25 inches will be common for this region. In addition, upper-level energy rotating around an upper-level high over the Texas Panhandle will develop showers and thunderstorms over parts of the Southern/Central Rockies and parts of the Southern/Central High Plains overnight Monday and Tuesday. The Pacific Northwest region will be in a slightly unstable pattern over the next few days. Scattered shower activity is expected along the coast Wednesday and Thursday.
