Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 436 AM EDT Thu Aug 13 2015 Valid 12Z Thu Aug 13 2015 - 12Z Sat Aug 15 2015 ...Severe thunderstorms possible across Minnesota early Thursday morning... ...A cold front will bring cooler temperatures and showers and thunderstorms to the Pacific Northwest by Friday... Scattered showers and thunderstorms will persist over portions of the Northern Plains and Upper Midwest this morning as an upper-level disturbance and associated cold front passes through the region from Canada. Some of these storms may become severe, per the Storm Prediction Center's slight risk, through 7 a.m. CDT today (Thursday). Thunderstorm activity will accompany this disturbance over the Upper Midwest and Great Lakes area by the weekend. The Gulf Coast and portions of the Southeast will remain in a moist unstable environment as thunderstorm initiate along a trailing stationary front. A few areas will have greater areal coverage of thunderstorm activity and may observe periods of higher rainfall amounts; especially southern Florida, where 1 to 1.5 inches possible. A cold front will begin to sweep through the Pacific Northwest by early Friday morning and continue on its East-Southeast track into the weekend. This system will bring noticeably cooler temperatures to many areas that have been running well-above seasonal average of late. Scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop ahead of and along this system. An area of increased coverage is anticipated for western Washington Friday morning and afternoon, where amounts of 0.50 to near 1.0 inch may be possible.
