Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 344 PM EDT Sat Aug 15 2015 Valid 00Z Sun Aug 16 2015 - 00Z Tue Aug 18 2015 ...Severe thunderstorms possible for portions of the northern plains tonight... ...Above average temperatures expected for the Great Lakes and Northeast... A cold front will move across the northern plains tonight and into the Upper Midwest on Sunday. Numerous showers and thunderstorms are expected along and ahead of the front tonight and again on Sunday across much of the northern and central plains and the Midwest. Showers and thunderstorms associated with this system will reach the Upper Great Lakes by Monday morning. The Storm Prediction Center is forecasting a slight risk of severe thunderstorms through tonight across portions of the northern plains. The risk of severe thunderstorms will shift southward to the central plains on Sunday, per the latest Day 2 Convective Outlook from the SPC. The remains of a washed-out frontal boundary along the Gulf Coast will continue to focus moisture and instability, resulting in scattered showers and thunderstorms across much of the Southeast. More widespread showers and thunderstorms are possible along the immediate coast from Louisiana east to the Florida Panhandle through Sunday. Sunday night into Monday an upper-level disturbance will move northward from the Gulf into the Southeastern U.S., which may bring more widespread showers and thunderstorms farther inland. High pressure at the mid and upper-levels of the atmosphere will move from the Great Lakes toward the Northeast over the next couple days. This will result in above average temperatures, with afternoon high temperatures 10 to 15 degrees above average across these areas. Cooler temperatures will begin to work into the Upper Great lakes on Monday as the cold front passes. Ryan Graphics available at www.wpc.ncep.noaa.gov/basicwx/basicwx_wbg.php
