Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 332 AM EDT Sun Aug 16 2015 Valid 12Z Sun Aug 16 2015 - 12Z Tue Aug 18 2015 ...There is a slight risk of severe thunderstorms over parts of the Central High Plains to parts of Middle Missouri Valley... ...Heavy rain possible over parts of the Central Plains into the Upper Great Lakes... A front extending from the Upper Mississippi Valley to the Central High Plains will move eastward to the Great Lakes then roughly southwestward to the Central High Plains by Monday evening. Moisture pooling along the boundary will aid in producing showers and thunderstorms along and ahead of the front from parts of the Central Plains to the Upper Mississippi Valley/Upper Great Lakes that will move into the Great Lakes/Ohio Valley while extending westward into the Central Rockies by Monday. Additional upper-level energy moving southeastward from Western Canada to the Central Rockies will trigger showers and thunderstorms over parts of the Northern/Central High Plains Monday afternoon into Monday evening. Meanwhile, high moisture content air over the Gulf Coast to the Southeast along with upper-level impulses will trigger showers and thunderstorms along parts of the Gulf Coast and the Southeast Coast through Monday. In addition, moisture will move northward from the Gulf Coast to parts of the Tennessee and Ohio Valleys. Daytime heating will work on the moisture and aid in producing showers and thunderstorms over parts of the Southeast/Central Appalachians and parts of the Ohio/Tennessee Valleys during the afternoon and evening hours on Sunday/Monday. Similarly, monsoonal moisture and diurnal heating will trigger showers and thunderstorms over parts of the Southern/Central Rockies on Sunday and Monday afternoon/evening.
