Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 421 PM EDT Sun Aug 16 2015 Valid 00Z Mon Aug 17 2015 - 00Z Wed Aug 19 2015 ...Severe thunderstorms possible for portions of the central High Plains... ...Flash flooding possible for portions of the central/northern plains and Upper Midwest... ..Above average temperatures expected for the Northeastern U.S and the Pacific Northwest... An active weather pattern will continue across much of the central U.S. through the next few days. A cold front moving across the central plains and Midwest this afternoon will become nearly stationary by early Monday morning as the upper-level flow becomes generally parallel to the surface frontal boundary. This front will serve as the focus for multiple rounds of showers and thunderstorms over the next few days across areas from the central High Plains eastward to the Upper Midwest. The Storm Prediction Center is forecasting a slight risk of severe thunderstorms through tonight across portions of the central High Plains. Flash flooding will also be possible, with the potential for several rounds of showers and thunderstorms with potentially heavy rainfall over the same areas. Across the southeastern U.S. wet conditions will prevail in many areas as a broad upper-level disturbance interacts with a moist and unstable air mass to generate daily rounds of showers and thunderstorms. Locally heavy rainfall will be possible in any of these showers and thunderstorms as their movement could be rather slow. High pressure at the mid and upper-levels will build across the Northeast over the next couple days -- which will keep dry and warm conditions in place. Afternoon high temperatures Monday and Tuesday will be 10 to 15 degrees above average in some areas of the Northeast and northern Mid-Atlantic region. Temperatures will rise once again across the Pacific Northwest by Tuesday, with afternoon high temperatures surpassing 15 degrees above average in some areas.
