Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 328 AM EDT Fri Aug 21 2015 Valid 12Z Fri Aug 21 2015 - 12Z Sun Aug 23 2015 ...Showers and thunderstorms expected today for New England... ...Strong low pressure system to bring thunderstorms and heavy rain to the northern and central plains on Saturday... A slow-moving cold front will move across New England today, with showers and thunderstorms likely along and ahead of the front. The same frontal boundary extends into the southeastern U.S. and south central, where it becomes stationary. This boundary will linger over the next couple days as it diminishes -- but will continue to serve as a focus for generally scattered showers and thunderstorms. A few areas of more widespread showers and thunderstorms are possible -- and locally heavy rainfall can be expected. A low pressure system will intensify over the northern High Plains through tonight as a vigorous upper-level disturbance crosses the northern Intermountain West. As this system moves farther east into the central plains and Upper Midwest on Saturday it will access deeper moisture originating in the Gulf of Mexico. As a result, numerous showers and thunderstorms are expected along and ahead of the front across the central/northern plains and Upper Midwest on Saturday. Behind the front a fall-like air mass will move into the northern plains, with temperatures 10 to 20 degrees below average. Ryan Graphics available at www.wpc.ncep.noaa.gov/basicwx/basicwx_wbg.php
