Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 454 PM EDT Fri Aug 21 2015 Valid 00Z Sat Aug 22 2015 - 00Z Mon Aug 24 2015 ~~~Nice weather from the Ohio Valley to the Mid-Atlantic~~~ ~~~Strong storm system to affect the northern U.S.~~~ ~~~Showers and thunderstorms for the southern tier states~~~ After a recent stretch of hot and humid weather across much of the Ohio Valley and northeastern U.S., a cold front has moved through the region and resulted in lower humidity and slightly cooler conditions. However, the front is still moving through New England, and scattered showers and storms are still likely from Massachusetts to Maine through Friday evening. The southern portion of this front is expected to remain stalled across the Deep South before washing out. Showers and storms are expected each day across this region. Another well-defined surface low is developing across the northern High Plains as a vigorous upper-level disturbance crosses the northern Rockies. As this low moves farther east towards the Upper Midwest on Saturday it will begin to tap deeper moisture from the Gulf of Mexico. This is expected to result in numerous showers and thunderstorms along and ahead of the trailing cold front from Kansas to Minnesota on Saturday. Behind the front a pristine air mass will move across the north-central U.S. with fall-like temperatures. Hamrick Graphics available at www.wpc.ncep.noaa.gov/basicwx/basicwx_wbg.php
