Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 346 AM EDT Sun Aug 23 2015 Valid 12Z Sun Aug 23 2015 - 12Z Tue Aug 25 2015 ...Heavy rain possible today over portions of the southern plains... ...Cool and dry air mass to overspread much of the central U.S... A relatively strong cold front will move across the central U.S. today, bringing showers and thunderstorms to a large area along the front. Abundant moisture ahead of the front will allow for some of the thunderstorms to produce heavy rainfall today, especially across portions of the southern plains. Farther north along the front, scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms will affect much of the Midwest and Upper Great Lakes today. The front will continue to move east tonight into Monday bringing a chance for showers and thunderstorms to the East Coast by Monday afternoon. Additionally, a lingering frontal boundary off the Northeast U.S. coastline will bring scattered showers and thunderstorms to New England today. Scattered showers and thunderstorms will also be a possibility across the Southeast today as a moist and unstable air mass remains in place -- and a weak warm front across the southern Appalachians will serve as a potential enhancement for development. A cooler and drier air mass will overspread much of the central U.S. behind the aforementioned cold front. Afternoon high temperatures behind the front will be 10 to 15 degrees below average for many areas. Ryan Graphics available at www.wpc.ncep.noaa.gov/basicwx/basicwx_wbg.php
