Short Range Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 327 AM EDT Tue Aug 25 2015 Valid 12Z Tue Aug 25 2015 - 12Z Thu Aug 27 2015 ...Cold front to bring showers and thunderstorms to the Eastern Seaboard... ...Scattered showers and thunderstorms possible for the southern plains, Southwest, and the central Rockies... ...Dry conditions to continue for the Pacific Northwest... A strong but slow-moving cold front will continue to move toward the East Coast today. The front will result in scattered showers and thunderstorms along the entire Eastern Seaboard. An area of more widespread showers and thunderstorms is possible across northern New England, where a northward moving warm front will provide some additional lift necessary for convective development. Scattered showers and thunderstorms will again be possible across portions of New England on Wednesday, as well as across portions of Florida and the coastal Carolinas. The cold front also extends across the northern Gulf of Mexico and into southeastern Texas, where scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms are expected this afternoon and evening. Behind the cold front, a cool and dry air mass will remain in place across much of the Midwest, Great Lakes, and Ohio valley. Afternoon high temperatures will be 10 to 20 degrees below normal in some areas. The below average temperatures will move eastward into the Appalachians on Wednesday. Monsoonal moisture as well as several upper-level disturbances will bring scattered showers and thunderstorms to much of the southwestern U.S. and portions of the central Rockies over the next couple days. Areas of terrain will see the most numerous showers and thunderstorms, primarily during the afternoon and evening. Dry conditions with above average temperatures will continue across the Pacific Northwest through the next couple days, as high pressure at the mid and upper-levels of the atmosphere remains in place.
